Baxi boilers – noticing common faults

As winter draws in it is vital to have a boiler that works. Not only will it provide regular hot water when needed but it will also keep your home warm when it’s cold outside. If you own a Baxi boiler that is not working currently then it could be due to a range of issues.

Here are some of the most common FAQs about plumbing and heating faults for Baxi boilers that might be useful to know:

Boiler lock-out

If your boiler has stopped working altogether than it has most likely locked itself out completely due to overheating. This can happen on all Baxi boilers and the relevant error code should tell you if this is the case in the instruction manual. If it has locked out totally then you can try to reset the boiler via the relevant button on it. If this doesn’t work then you will need to call a professional out as it could be something more serious like blocked pipework or a broken pump.

No hot water in the Baxi combi-boiler

If your Baxi combi-boiler is not producing any hot water when in use then it could well be the diaphragm washer. This is also true if the hot water only works when your central heating is on at the same time. We can get diaphragm washer kits and try to replace it but sometimes its best to replace the water section completely. If you are experiencing any of these faults, it is wise to call a heating engineer out.

Baxi boiler not igniting

If your boiler is not igniting when you fire it up then it will naturally not work. This can be a problem in some specific Baxi models such as the 100e and Barcelona. If you are having this issue then it is probably a faulty chamber seal causing the fault. If your chamber seals are split or worn out then they need replacing by a Gas Safe Engineer and should fix the fault.

Although many people may feel comfortable diagnosing and fixing simple boiler issues themselves, it really is best to call out an expert plumber or heating engineer.
