Landlord Fined £4,000

A landlord in Cornwall Risked the life’s of neighbours and the tenants living at the property by removing a existing gas boiler and installing a new gas boiler himself, despite being unqualified to do so.

The courts heard that the landlord had fitted the new gas boiler to the existing chimney/flue risking a explosion or Carbon Monoxide escaping into the house if the boiler had been used.

The landlord then called in a Gas Safe Registered Engineer to have a look at the work and the engineer saw the connection and classed the boiler as Immediately Dangerous and contacted the HSE.

The Landlord was fined £4,000.00 and ordered to pay costs of £288.00.

The landlord at this property tried to save money by installing the boiler himself and getting it signed of by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, this is why Gas Engineers study hard to get there qualifications and why you should always used a Gas Safe Registered Engineer for any gas related works.
